Cambridge/Ghanaian Curricula

The curriculum at SFCS is based on the Cambridge Primary curriculum framework for the core subjects of English/English as a Second Language (ESL), Mathematics and Science. At the JHS 1 -3 Level, students may choose to follow the Ghana Education Service (G.E.S) and take the B.E.C.E, or follow the Cambridge Curriculum.

We do integrate international and local Ghanaian educational content into the English National Curriculum so that it’s suitable for our diverse student body.
The curriculum is vertically integrated and covers:
  • Early Years Foundation Stage (Nursery and Reception)
  • Key Stage 1 (Classes 1 & 2)
  • Key Stage 2 (Classes 3 to 6)
  • Key Stage 3 (Classes 7 to 9)
  • JHS 1 – 3 (G.E.S – BECE)
The core subjects are covered in the Cambridge Curriculum Framework with textbooks and workbooks with Teacher’s Guide endorsed by Cambridge International Examinations (CIE).

Phonics

Early phonetic and literacy skills are developed using innovative reading methods such as the Jolly Phonics and Oxford Press reading  schemes. Thorough Jolly phonics, students develop early reading and writing skills by learning all 42 phonetic sounds of the English Language and blending and segmenting sounds rather than simply learning the alphabet.

Differentiated Learning

Teaching an learning is differentiated according to the ability and multisensory, catering for visual, auditory and kinaesthetic learning styles. In addition, an intervention program is organised for individual students with learning challenges in various subject areas.

All our students have weekly Bible study lessons as well as a weekly chapel assembly. Children of all faiths are welcomed to participate.

SFCS welcomes families of all faiths and does nor discriminate against religion or ethnicity and encourages creativity, positive social interaction and teamwork.
